Gladiator final scene is so powerful.

Mountain Meadows

The first photo that I chose shows the rule of thirds. The American flag is in the right upper corner in the that third of the composition. This gives the photo a much better composition than if you put the flag directly in the middle of the photo. Not only does it give you more to see to notice what is going on but it helps you eye to be guided through the composition. 

 The second photo that I chose shows strong diagonal lines leading your eye through the meadows. The fence starts in the lower left corner and continues through the composition. This helps give your eye depth perception. This photo would otherwise be hard to tell how large the meadows are if the fence was not there for you to comprehend it.

ESPN -- Good Example

     ESPN uses some of the basics about design that make it appealing. They use simplicity. I know that sounds crazy since ESPN has more information on the site than the majority of other sites. They make it easy to navigate and find what your looking for. They use drop down menus to minimize clutter. Main image is slightly of set to the left in stead of right in the center of the page. ESPN's color also includes a gradual fade from red to gray to white. I think this works well because when you get to the part of the website with a lot of words you don't want the color of the website to distract you when you are reading. 

Dixie Athletics -- Bad Example

      Dixie athletics is busy with a lot of stuff going on the beginning of the page. Also just a side note they have a landing page that can cause a lot of people to bounce off the page. They lack continuity with the Dixie State website. Since they are associated with the college, obviously, they should have some continuity in design. Main image for story is right in center of page instead of in a rule of thirds position. The main story should be dominant on the page. There is nothing that stands out "read me first". Your eye is not sure what to do. All of the photos and thumbnails are relatively the same.

There is some great side lighting that shows the texture going on in the ground and also the bushes. The clouds also create some horizontal lines that make the photo seem calm.
